Wayland boys slip to 7th in league bowling tourney

Wayland’s Lowell Invitational champions (front, from left) Hunter Osborn, Bryan Franck, Jordan Peters, )back row) Joe Laidler, Dylan Roberts, Alex Marble, Dillon Smith, and Christian Courser.

The Wayland boys’ bowling team was fourth after game one, fell to fifth after game two, and finished seventh out of 10 teams Saturday at the O-K Gold/Green Conference Tournament.

Making all-conference honorable mention were juniors Dylan Roberts and Dillon Smith. Dillon Smith was 19th in a tough conference with a 185 average followed very closely by Dylan Roberts in 20th place with a 182.

“All three individual team games were strong; we simply fell apart in the Baker games to end our day,” explained coach Sherry Miklusicak.

The scores for the day were senior Jordan Peters 229, 133, 164; sophomore Alex Marble 165, 178, 210; senior Bryan Franck 194, 198, 140; junior Dylan Roberts 144, 204; junior Dillon Smith 185, 198, 213 for a team high 596 series

However, Baker scores of 137, 141, 148, and 153 were well below the Wildcats’ average.

“Senior Jordan Peters has bowled on the team all four high school years and was an important part of the team. He was always easy going part of the team who didn’t let things get to him,” the coach said.

“Senior Bryan Franck has been bowling with the high school team for four years as well. I really enjoyed having Bryan on the team this year. He has really matured into a fun person to be around.

“Senior Hunter Osborn had bowled his freshman, sophomore and senior years. Hunter always worked hard at every practice and was ready to come in and help the team whenever he could.

“Senior Mike Cole bowled his junior and senior years. Mike also came in to help the team out whenever called on.”

“My wish for the senior boys is for them to continue bowling in their adult years as I think they enjoy the game and still have time to improve.

Miklusicak said she’s optimistic that Wayland will make some good strides next year in the conference.

“Dillon and Dylan will continue to improve and lead the team with the help of experienced junior Christian Courser and sophomore Alex Marble who will only get better and better,” Miklusicak said. “Our fifth, sixth, and seventh spots are open and ready to be challenged for by our JV bowlers.”

Wayland heads to regional competition this coming Friday and Saturday at Continental Lanes in Kalamazoo.
