Wayland pulled out a tough overtime match at Grand Rapids Catholic Central, 59-53, Tuesday night, to keep its hopes of an O-K Gold championship alive.
The victory kept the Wildcats in front of South Christian, which won over Kenowa Hills at the same time, setting up a showdown Friday night at the Wayland gym.
Wayland now owns a 16-3 record overall and is 10-1 in the Gold. South Christian, which is the only leagie opponent to beat Wayland this year, is 9-2.
Sophomore pivot Harmony Laker again led the Lady Wildcats on the offensive side, this time with 21 points that included 11 free throws. Senior guard Maddy Terry netted 16 points that included three three-point field goals. Senior guard Liberty Laker added 10 points, including a three and five free throws.
Catholic Central, with the loss, is now tied with Kenowa Hills for third place in the Gold standings, both with records of 7-4.
