Hurdler Austin Reeder plays a different sport during the winter.

The Wayland High School boys’ varsity track team placed fourth in the O-K Gold Conference meet Friday at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.

The guys accumulated 75 points, one more than Ottawa Hills. Forest Hills Eastern was league champion with 131.

The girls’ squad settled for seventh with 36.6 points. Ottawa Hills took all the marbles with 168.

Two Wildcat boys emerged as O-K Gold Conference champions. Ian Thompson was first in the long jump at 20 feet, three inches. Austin Reeder captured the top spot in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.07 seconds, but he was unable to finish the 300-meter hurdles race.

Thrower Carson Noyes had a decent day, finishing third in the shot put at 42-08 and he was second in the discus at 137-09.

Tim Wierckz was runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 23 seconds flat. Thompson and Wierckz went two-three in the 100 with times of 11.16 and 11.31 seconds, respectively.

Sophomore Devin Weaver took sixth in the 800-meter run with his personal best time of 2:08.5. Freshman Cainon Fenn was was seventh in the open 400.

Sophomore Faith Rollandini was fifth in the 200 and she ran a leg of the sixth-place 800-meter relay with Elliot Antel, Autumn Gesink and Taylor Wolf.

Antel, a freshman, added a fourth in the open 400, sophomore Breanna Hyde was runner-up in the long jump at 16-0, fifth in the 100-meter hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles.

Hyde, Antel, Wolf and Rollandini took fourth in the 1600 relay.
