Wayland boys’ varsity bowling coach Sherry Miklusicak was nearly ecstatic about her team’s 22-8 O_K Gold Conference triumph over Grand Rapids Christian Wednesday.

“The boys have arrived!” she exclaimed. “I am so happy for these young men! They have struggled, worked hard, and lost a few very close matches. Well tonight was a different story!

The Wildcats, now 3-6-1 for the season overall in dual matches, took Baker game one by just three pins. Michael Foley had to mark in the tenth frame to secure the win, 177-174.

Baker game two was a disaster, with open frames their downfall once again, and so now they would lose the total for Baker games as well, 178-117.

“I initially felt this would be one of those nights I would be glad we scored a few points to save a shutout,” the coach said. “I was wrong and I am glad I was.”

Wayland won the first team game 783-762. Taking their individual points were Bryan Franck, Michael Foley and Dillon Smith., so the ‘Cats found themselves enjoying a 11-8 lead at the start of the second round of match play.

Wayland was down by about 50 pins in about the fourth or fifth frame.

“Our gentlemen decided to pour it on and never let up,” Miklusicak said. “Every Wildcat took his point this game.”

Jordan Peters came in and rescued game one by striking in four of the remaining five frames and ended with a 171. Dylan Roberts rocked a 193, Bryan Franck 175, Captain Michael Foley 190, and anchoring Dillon Smith 235. The finished this game 964-842.

“I think that was quite a statement!” Miklusicak said.
