The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team was blanked 30-0 by Byron Center Monday afternoon.

However, the Lady Wildcats took their dual match 26-4.

“We had only five lady bowlers this afternoon due to illness and it wasn’t a problem,” said coach Eric Bottrall. “As a team, we hold each other up!”

Both Baker games were taken by Wayland. Scores were 170-152 and 164-120.

Exchange student Tori Salabutino got to start both matches and won both her points.

“She is such a sweet girl who always is smiling,” Bottrall said. “I think she had a lot of fun as was evident in the joy she showed! Ah, who am I kidding, she is joyful all the time.”

Kadence Bottrall took both her points as well, with a very high 249 game and another nice game of 215, meaning her average probably will go up yet again. She has the lead in the girls department, and even nis pushing the O-K Gold/Green Conference boys.

Bella Harnish, Haley Taylor and Lillian Gates all contributed to nice team totals of 780 and 773 to beat Byron Center.

But the guys struggled.

“It was a rough night for our boys, as it was their first loss by shutout of the season. In fact, I’m not sure if we have ever been shut out,” remarked coach Sherry Rybiski Miklusicak.

The coach said Byron struggled a bit in the two Baker gamess, but the Wildcats bowled very poorly.

“We could have taken Baker games, but had too many opens,” she said. “Individual games weren’t any better.”

On Saturday the Wayland boys’ and girls’ teams bowled in the Hudsonville Tournament and didn’t have their best day, according to girls’ coach Eric Bottrall. “This group has come a long way and will only get better with time.

“What makes this group so special is that later that evening they all were at the Snowcoming Dance and took this awesome picture! They are more than a bunch kids bowling together, they are a bowling family!”
