Bryan FranckThe Wayland High School boys’ varsity bowling team hit a rough patch this week with dual match losses, 19-11 to Hudsonville Unity Christian and 24-6 to Byron Center.

“Our boys and coach are a bit disheartened after Wednesday night’s loss (to Unity) as we had a 10-0 lead and then not being able to take just 6 of the remaining 20 points,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak.

The Wildcats won the first Baker game 159-151 and the second 190-178. The second Baker game featured only one open frame.

“Oh boy, then the opens started plaguing us again,” the coach lamented.

The first individual game featured 26 open frames and the second individual had 19 open frames.

“In the meantime, Unity Christian had one of their best nights ever,” Miklusicak added.

Wayland lost its first Baker game 145-206 to Byron Center and rebounded to win the second Baker 175-164. The ‘Cats only had two opens in the second Baker game which aided in the win and they were down only 6-4 going into match play.

But they rolled 25 open frames out of 50 in the first individual game.

Leading the Wildcats in this game was Bryan Franck with a 181 game, “So we know he did a great job of covering his spares,” Miklusicak said.

The Wildcats didn’t fare much better in the second individual game, with 22 of 50 frames opened.

“We did manage to meet the coach’s mini-goal of beating our own first team score by about 40 pins,” Miklusicak said. “We have a long ways to go when it comes to shooting our spares.”
