Revenge was sweet.
The Wayland boys bowling team Wednesday turned the tables on Grand Rapids Union 29-1 at Westgate Lanes in Grand Rapids.
Meanwhile, the Lady Wildcats posted a shutout 30-0 triumph to finish their league season with only one loss.
In their second O-K Gold Conference dual match of the season the Wildcat boys were beaten 20-10 by Union at Rock ’N Bowl in Wayland.
“We had lost one of the matches by just two pins,” recalled coach Sherry Miklusicak. “Today we were on the road, ready to claim victory.”
Baker games started with two wins 164-158 and 213-140. Wayland was plagued in the first game with three single pin misses in a row. Wil Dewing was 3 for 4; Jayse Henkel was 3 for 4; Dominik Baker was 3 for 4; and Kyle VanEss went 7 for 7.
Wayland filled 14 out of 15 marks in the first three frames of match play, including nine strikes in a row. The Wildcat boys took nearly every point possible and rolled a 1013 team total, which is a 202 average.
Rolling very well were sophomore Louis Harnish 200, senior Wil Dewing 224, senior Jayse Henkel 189, senior Dom Baker 154, and senior Kyle VanEss 246. Miklusicak noted, “We had won the match already, as we just needed 16 points and the score was 18-1.”
All Wayland seniors got to bowl the last conference match of the season.The scores Dom Baker 157, Jayse Henkel 179, Raynie Arendsen 128, Wil Dewing 180, and Kyle VanEss 214. Every match point was taken this game, as well as total pins.
At the same time, the ladies were rolling unopposed.
“Even though our ladies bowled unopposed this afternoon, it doesn’t mean they took it easy,” said girls’ coach Eric Bottrall. “I didn’t notice the early scores, but the last match was amazing. The ladies beat the boys’ second score again tonight as their last three out of four games were over an 850 team total!
“Perfect timing ladies as we head into post season!”
