The Hopkins boys’ and Wayland girls’ basketball teams both will play two games in the 16th annual Cornerstone University High School Holiday Tournament Dec. 21-22 and Dec. 26-29.
Sixty area high school hoops teams will participate. CU will welcome 21 of the best West Michigan varsity basketball teams to Mol Arena over these six days to compete in a division style tournament. All proceeds from the tournament go toward supporting Cornerstone University’s spring sports teams and their spring break trips.
The Wayland girls, who are 0-2 thus far this season after losses to Caledonia and Grand Rapids West Catholic, will take on Rockford at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Mol Arena at the university. If the Lady Wildcats prevail, they will meet Forest Hills Central at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27. If they lose, they will play Grand rapids Catholic Central at 2 p.m. that day.
The Hopkins boys, owners of a 4-0 overall record, will match up with Forest Hills Eastern at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26. If the Vikings lose, they will play either Cedar Springs or Muskegon Oakridge at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29. If they win their tourney opener, they’ll face the winner of Cedar Springs-Oakridge opener at 4 p.m. Dec. 29.
