WHS grad earns collegiate all-conference in basketball

Former Wayland High School basketball standout Cory Ainsworth has been selected to the first team All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference team.

Only a sophomore, Ainsworth was named to the All-WHAC Freshman Team last season, led the team with 14.3 points per game in 2020-21 and ranked second on the team with 5.1 rebounds per contest.

Ainsworth shot a dominant 66.7% from the field on 106 of 159 field goal attempts to lead the Golden Eagles and rank seventh best in the NAIA. He also was one of the best this season in blocks, recording 37 in 18 games for an average of 2.05 a game. Ainsworth tied a single game program record with seven blocks in a win at Lawrence Tech this season.

He is the son of Dan and Julie Ainsworth of Wayland and his sister Stephanie, a senior at WHS, plans to play for the Golden Eagles as well next season.
