WHS grad leads college women’s team in rebounds

Wayland High School graduate Stephanie Ainsworth is the leading rebounder and second leading scorer for the Cornerstone University women’s basketball team this winter.

In the 23 games in which she has played, she has scored 309 points for a per game average of 13.4. She has 199 rebounds for a per game average of 8.7.

Ainsworth has come up with 53 blocks on defense, more than four times any other player on the squad.

The Golden Eagles have posted a 12-11 record overall.

Ainsworth’s older brother, Cory, graduated last year with the team’s most points and rebounds and was an all-conference selection.

Ainsworth was an all-state selection as a member of the Wayland team and led the Lady Wildcats to the state quarterfinals. The team three years ago won the O-K Gold Conference, district and regional championships, and along the way Ainsworth tied the school record for most points in one game, 40, with Angie Farmer and Presley Hudson.
