Ali Martus, the greatest female golfer in Wayland High School history, has signed on to play the sport and seek a degree at Northwood University next year.
Martus, shown here seated in the middle and flanked by her parents, Warren and Diane, completed her career on the links with a school record 35 for nine holes, a record 75 for 18 holes and an amazing 13-match streak in which she carded under 40 for nine holes and under 80 for 18. She qualified for the state championship meet four times and thrice earned all-state accolades, finishing fifth individually in the state meet last month.
With the Martus family in the supplied photo is coach Jack Deming, also former Wayland High School principal.
Northwood, an NCAA Division II school, is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which includes Grand Valley, Hillsdale and Ferris State.
