Wayland High School senior Amber Beggs Saturday qualified for next weekend’s state bowling championship.

“Things weren’t looking very good, as her first game was a 129,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “Amber re-injured her back again as she misjudged the step on the approach. Her next game was only 19 pins better.”

Freshman Bella Harnish, was doing pretty well with games of 162 and 156. and the next game was an improvement for these ladies. Beggs rolled a fine 202 game while Harnish shot 178 and both Lady Wildcats were in the top 20 with three games to go. But then both ladies faltered a little with identical games of 148.

Beggs then dug deep with experience under her belt and family and friends cheering her on. This would be her last time at a chance to make the state tournament. She ended up 10th with a six-match series of 1026., rolling games of 183 and 213 in the final two of six exhausting games.

“This young lady is such a positive role model,” the coach said. “She never gets down on herself and always looks at the bright side. She said, ‘I still have a chance and I am going to do this,’ and do this she did.”

Harnish, however, finally ran out of gas in the sixth and final game and 25th with a six-match series of 926.
