Wildcat bats very quiet in 2-0 loss to Grand Haven

Wayland’s regular softball season ended with an overall record of 25-7-1, as the ‘Cats bats were uncharacteristically quiet in a 2-0 non-league loss to Grand Haven Wednesday.

The Wildcats were held to just four hits by Bucaneers’ hurler P. Borgman, who also struck out 11 Wayland hitters.

Shelby VanHouten had a double and a single in two at-bats and Carli Miklusicak and Madi Ludema both had a single. But that was all.

Ludema suffered the hardback loss on the mound. She scattered eight hits, walked one and struck out five.

The Wildcats defeated Grand Haven 8-3 earlier in the season at a tournament.

Wayland will meet Allegan at 10 a.m. Saturday in the opening round of the district tournament at Hopkins. The host team will take on Middleville Thornapple Kellogg in the other semifinal at noon. The district finals will get under way at 2 p.m. Saturday.
