Gone are the days when league rivals Wayland and South Christian did interesting battles on the lanes. The latter bowling team in recent years has suffered through lack of numbers.
Monday afternoon was no different, as the Wayland boys bested the Sailors and bested t28-2. Wil;dcat girls’ coach Eric Bottrall observed, “They used to be one of our biggest competitors, but they no longer have any female bowlers.” Wayland won by default 30-0
Regardless, boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak said, “We were lucky to win the first Baker game today as we only had a 141 game with five opens too many. Fortunately, South only had a 123. Our second game was much better with a 189. That is more like this team.”
Jayse Henkel marked in three of four frames as did Louie Harnish. Kyle VanEss rolled three strikes and one spare out of five frames.
Wil Dewing took both his points with a high game of 191. Harnish took both his points with game of 206 and 194. He anchored the team in game two. Dominik Baker rolled well, taking both his points with games of 175 and 205. Kyle VanEss and Trevin Berens both took a point and freshman Drake Smith saw his first varsity match.
“I think he was a little nervous and we picked on him just a little after his first frame. He was all smiles. so I know he had fun! “
Miklusicak had messaged the JV boys, telling them that if they came, she would put them in for the second game if we had already won.
Bottrall said about his girls, “You would think it would have been a boring afternoon for our ladies who still need to bowl for their averages in conference play. “
Hebrought along most of the JV girls and they had a match with them.
“It was pretty cool and a great idea to see all the ladies bowling!” Bottrall said.
High games for the match were turned in by Haven Baker 175, Brooke Trumbull 158, and Lily Keech 153.
