Wildcat bowlers roll well in triumphs vs. TK

Wayland’s boys’ and girls’ bowling team both came up with convincing wins Thursday afternoon over O-K Gold Conference rival Thornapple Kellogg of Middleville.

The guys prevailed 29 1/2 to 1/2. The girls won 26-4.

Wildcat boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak said, “The first Baker game started out so so with a 160, but we won that game we got it together and had a great second Baker game of 211. We filled all our frames in the second Baker game.

“It was a great  show for the guys – we are peaking at  kind of at the perfect time as we have three big matches coming up next week.”

In game one of match play, Dominic Baker took his point. Wil Dewing took his point with a 179 and Jayce Henkel tied his opponent with a 172. Louis Harnish finished the second half of his game amazingly well and rolled the 222, taking his point. Kyle VanEss took his point with a 183.

“Our team score of 919 was a great start,” Miklusicak said. “I’d like to say that it will help us next week when we have to bowl the state runner-up, Northview.”

In game two Raynie Arendsen came back from a lengthy illness and rolled a 225, taking his point along with Wil Dewing. Jayse Henkle had a 193 game taking his point. Louis Harnish had another 200 plus game with a 207 taking his point and Kyle VanEss took his point with the high game of the night, 244

Miklusicak commented, “Our guys had a season high 1024 that game and I am going to have to look back in the records to see if we broke any…”

The Wayland ladies had almost as much of a good time in defeating the Trojans.

In the first Baker game Wayland won, 138 to 123. The second Baker game the Wildcats won 142-123 to go up 10-0.

In the first contest in match play, Lily Keech won her point with a 134 game, Jasmine Ortiz won her point with a 168, Brooke Trumbull won with a 116, and Faith Rabideau took her point with a 154.

In game two, taking their points were Jasmine Ortiz 144 and Haven Baker 176.

Coach Eric Bottrall observed, “These two young ladies won by enough points to take the team total as well!”
