Wildcat bowlers split in Wyoming Wolves matches

Wayland girls’ varsity bowling coach Eric Bottrall admitted the Wednesday contest vs. Wyoming appeared to be closer than the final score of 23-7, but added, “What wasn’t or ladies team’s best outing by far turned out in our favor for yet another win.”

High game of the evening went to Bella Harnish with a fine 201 game “after her first game of a lot of decent pocket hits, but not carrying well,” her coach said. “She got increased her ‘roll’ and had a great result.”

Freshmen anchor Kadence Botrall anchored her team with games of 184 and 199. Other match points were won by senior Brooke Bixler and freshmen Lauren Healy, who is just coming off the injured list.

The victories improved the Lady Wildcats’ overall season record to 8-1-1.

The rebuilding and inexperienced boys’ team, meanwhile, lost 22-8 to Wyoming, lowering its season record to 2-8.

“Tonight was a great improvement for our team, as we were completely out of our class on our first meeting earlier in the season,” remarked coach Sherry Rybiski Miklusicak. “The Cats took the first Baker game tonight to find ourselves in the lead. Baker game two didn’t go as well.”

The ‘Cats were ahead in the first match until about the eighth frame.

“When this team figures out how monumental the ninth and 10th frames are, we will win more matches,” the coach said.

Wayland came up with three points this match with Senior Max Oosterhouse leading off the team and taking his point in this match and was the lone point in the second match. Senior Jordan Fitzgerald nearly broke 200 and took his point as well. The remaining point was by freshmen Chandler Caruso.

“We pretty much gave up in match two, Miklusicak added. “Remember when the strikes don’t fall (or you don’t hit the pocket), spares are a must — spares are ALWAYS a must.”

Wayland goes on the road next week with matches Monday and Wednesday afternoons against East Grand Rapids at the Clique and Zeeland at Zeeland Lanes.
