The Wayland ladies’ bowling team Wednesday afternoon scored a win vs. GR Union by default because Union could only muster two bowlers, but the Wildcat boys suffered a surprising defeat at the hands of Ottawa Hills.
“It was a tough loss today, as we didn’t do the things we need to do to win,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “Our minds weren’t focused enough.”
Wayland did win the first Baker game 157-128 but lost the second one by three pins 143-146, in which they had four open frames. Dominik Baker had three spares in four chances and Kyle VanEss had five strikes and two spares, with no opens.
In the first match, Wayland lost by just two pins 845 to 847.
“Really, this isn’t a bad score, but we only took two points this game, by Trevin Berens who came in during the fifth frame” and Jayse Henkel with a 183. Kyle VanEss rolled a 214. The score was now 8 points for Wayland and 11 for Union.
“We could still pull this out, going into the tenth frame we were only down a few pins, but we had more ninth frames with spares and strikes as Union opened three times. All we had to do was fill our frames, but disaster happened for Wayland.”
Taking their points by filling their tenth frame were Dominik Baker 183, and Kyle VanEss 249. Despite these great scores, the ‘Cats lost by 42 pins.
