Wildcat boys, girls blank Ottawa Hills 30-0 on bowling lanes

all-200x112The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team didn’t have any trouble Thursday afternoon defeating Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills 30-0 at Airport Lanes.

The Lady Wildcats also won 30-0, by forfeit because Ottawa Hills does not field a team. The Wayland girls now own a perfect 11-0 record this season in dual matches, 7-0 in league action.

The Wildcat boys took the first Baker game 189-144 and the second 180-148.

In the first individual game Wayland had high games by Nick Couturier with a 200, Jesse Miling 182, Michael Foley 190, and Cameron Heintzelman 218. Team total was 964 to Ottawa’s 683 and the ‘Cats were now up 19-0.

The second game included a substitution and some rearranging.

“Michael Foley got some experience as anchor bowler,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “He will be the only senior next year (unless some new kids go out for bowling — hint, hint!).”

Cameron Heintzelman led all bowlers this game with a 206 and the ‘Cats scored 868 as a team to Ottawa’s 640.

The Wayland boys’ season record now is 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the league, suffering its only loss at the hands of Byron Center.

The Lady Wildcats did some bowling Thursday, even though they were handed a forfeit.

“Although the win was assured, the ladies still came out bowled their best in a few weeks,” coach Bill Holbrook said. “A slow start in the first Baker game was finished off strong with a decent 158. The second Baker game followed a similar pattern resulting in a 151.

“Where they really picked it up was in the first team individual game. The Lady Wildcats shot their first 900 game in several weeks with exactly 900. They were consistent from top to bottom. They continued the strong performance in the second team individual game firing a 918 with three ladies in the 190s.”

Leading the way was sophomore Sydney Urben 213-190=403. Junior Alicia Sweeney shot a 178-197=375; senior Aubree Hodges 179-182=361; senior Lizzy Cobb 156-197=353 and sophomore Marissa Bruinsslot 174-152=326.

“As you can see, consistent bowling throughout the lineup with the team averaging 183 tonight,” Holbrook said. “This was the type of performance we needed to continue to build to our goals for this season of winning the conference and qualifying for State.”

The Wildcat boys and girls Saturday will compete in the Zeeland East Invitational.
