The Wayland boys’ varsity cross-country team Wednesday afternoon finished fourth among 14 teams at the Saranac Invitational.
The meet was added to the Wildcats’ schedule at the last minute and harriers had to find alternative busing to participate.
Wayland had 107 team points among the competitors, which included many Division 1 schools, such as Grand Ledge, Byron Center, East Lansing and Holt. Grand Ledge won with 77 points and Allendale was second with 86, East Lansing was third with 99.
The Lady Wildcats checked in seventh among 10 schools with a combined score of 173. Byron Center won that race with 63.
Senior Devin Weaver paced the ‘Cats by placing eighth in a 5K time of 17:33.4. Sophomore Dylan Pallett was 14th in 17:49.8, senior Travis Koon 20th in 18:10.3, junior Isaac Dyer 31st in 18:28 and junior James Butler 36th in 18:46.1.
Senior ace Olivia Barabas was the first Wildcat girl to cross the finish line, at 20:20.6, good for sixth place. She was followed by Elliot Antel in 27th, Noelle House 35th, Emma Thayer 58th and Ruby Sidebotham 72nd.
The Wildcat runners will take a break from competition until after the Labor Day holiday.
