The Wayland boys’ varsity bowing team posted its first dual match victory of the season in a 27-3 win Monday over O-K Gold Conference rival East Grand Rapids.

“On top of all our teams bad luck this season, I have to admit I was more than a bit panicked today as we were without our anchor Dillon Smith (in a walking cast – foot injury),” reported coach Sherry Miklusicak. “Never fear, senior Christian Courser did an outstanding job filling in for him. It isn’t easy facing the other team’s anchor (which is typically their best bowler), but Christian did remarkable job and took both his matches.”

The Wildcats started the evening winning both Baker games and quickly found themselves up 10-0.

In game one, sophomore Alan Beggs met his goal with a superb 200 game. He took both his match points as well.

Freshman, Mark Musgrave led the team in the second match with a 169 game.

Sophomore Max Oosterhouse took a point as well as senior Jarod Geerligs to complete the other winning points.

Wayland is now 1-2 in dual matches.
