The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team lost its O-K Gold/Green Conference finale of the season, 29-1 to Byron Center, bringing its overall season record to 6-11-1.

“Byron Center is a tough team to face and their anchor bowler (Jeff Northouse) had claimed a singles warm-up tournament the day before at Spectrum Lanes,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “Unfortunately, a lingering illness has hit our girls’ and boys’ teams for a couple of weeks that we just can’t seem to kick.

The Wayland boys found themselves down quickly, losing both Baker games by scores of 210 to 152 and 191 to 156.

The bright spot in individual game number one was Christian Courser’s 183 game, but Wayland was defeated 1069 to 720.

“The entire second set was much improved,” Miklusicak said. “I set a team goal of 800 pins and they surpassed it by 59 pins.”

Dylan Roberts had a 210 and took the lone point while Dillon Smith rolled a 203.

The Wildcats will be Park Lanes Saturday for the O-K Gold/Green Conference tournament.
