The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team scored a 22-8 victory over Grand Rapids Catholic Central Monday afternoon to run its record to 8-5 overall for the season.

The Lady Wildcats also won 24-6 at Park Lanes to move their season mark to 12-1.

I love it when we take the Baker games to start a big match!” exclaimed boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak. “Our leadoff, Kyle VanEss, certainly does a great job at his position. He is they guy you want to get your team pumped up.  We can count on him!  He stays positive no matter what and never gets down.”

VanEss went 4-for-4 for the night, striking three times.

“Then there is Dominik Baker, when he is on fire, the teams energy is just explosive,” the coach added. “His 3 of 4 frames were strikes too!”

The two Wildcat guys who fight for anchor position, Chandler Caruso (striking twice) and Aydin Tolliver provided a lot of fireworks as well. It was Tolliver‘s night, with seven strikes and a spare to anchor the team!  The anchor bowler bowls the fifth and 10th frames, so in the tenth frame there are extra chances for more strikes if striking on the first ball.

The Wayland boys had Baker games of 162 and 214.

“We may have faltered in a couple of frames in our first Baker game, but you could see Catholic had heard we had knocked off some big teams!” Miklusicak said. “All their coach could do was shake his head as we tore it up in the second Baker game.”

Kyle VanEss had quite the night, as he rolled a 216 and a 207.  Chandler Caruso crushed games of 205 and 194.

“He (Caruso) was rolling the ball very well. Catholic Central did throw two big games at us in the second match, but we already had the match won before the second team game.”

The Lady Wildcats got high games by Breanna Hyde 149, Haven Baker 149, Izzy Botwinski 156, Madison Bottrall 160 and Kadence Bottrall 205.

Up next is the Wildcats’ final regular O-K Gold Conference match at Rockford Lanes vs Cedar Springs Wednesday
