Wildcat boys finish with 8-12 mark, girls end season at 5-15

The Wayland boys’ and girls’ basketball teams concluded their regular seasons Friday evening by splitting their two contests at home against South Christian.

The boys defeated the visiting Sailors 50-42, avenging an earlier season loss and bouncing back from a bizarre 38-24 defeat Tuesday at the hands of Forest Hills Eastern.

Carter Nyp scored 16 points and Cory Ainsworth 13 for the Wildcats, who finished the regular campaign with a record of 8-12, 4-8 in the O-K Gold Conference.

The Lady Wildcats, completed their regular season with a 56-41 defeat at the hands of South Christian, bringing their final regular season record overall to 5-15, 4-8 in league play.

The girls will be the hosts of the Class B district tournament next week, and they will open at 7 p.m. Wednesday against the winner of the Plainwell-Otsego encounter from Monday evening.
