The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team was defeated 23-7 Tuesday night by O-K Gold Conference rival Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.
“We fell behind quickly tonight in the Baker games,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “To win a Baker game we need to bowl around a 170 game. Games of 124 and 107 do not win points.”
The Wildcats bounced back to take 7 out of 9 points in the first game. Leading the way for were Christian Courser, Mark Musgrave III, and Jarod Geerligs who all took their points and won by enough pins to take the total game point, so Wayland was down 12-7 at this point.
“We had a chance to take this thing and make our captain Dillon Smith proud of us too (out for his chipped bone in foot, hopefully he/we get good news from the specialist),” the coach said. “At this point we just fell apart. We had three opens to start the match and things just got worse from there. High game was a 128 and I won’t mention the name of the bowler, as that isn’t something to brag about. One can pretty much figure we didn’t take any points in game two.”
Miklusicak said the Wildcats will welcome three new bowlers after Christmas break.
“We have plenty of bowling left,” she said. “Hopefully, we can get in a few optional practices over Christmas break and see if we can strengthen the team and build for the future.”
