Wildcat boys rated 3rd in cross-country region

Wayland cross-country coach Raymond Antel has reported that the Wildcat boys currently are rated third in the region and 16th in the state. The top thee teams in the regional meet late next month will qualify for the state finals.

Wayland boys accumulated 77 points Saturday in the Sparta Invitational, good for fourth behind Forest Hills Eastern, Sparta and the Grand Rapids Track Club.

Devin Weaver placed third in 16:37.17 in the 5,000-meter race; Dylan Pallett was 11th in 17:01.65; Travis Koon 15th in 17:33.42; Isaac Dyer 21st in 17:46.42, and James Butler 27th in 18:05.66.

For the Lady Wildcats, Olivia Barabas was eighth, 19:54.14; Elliot Antel, 24th, 21L31.88; Noelle House 26th; Emma Thayer 38th and Ruby Sidebotham 45th.

Wayland girls took fifth among seven team in Gold Varsity Division. Forest Hills Eastern won the competition.
