The Wayland boys’ track team was runner-up in the O-K Gold Conference meet Friday afternoon and evening at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.

The Wildcats registered 106 team points in the meet. Forest Hills Eastern was first with 134.5.

The Lady Wildcats checked in eighth with 30 points. Grand Rapids Rapids Ottawa Hills, host for the meet, took the top spot with 134.

The Wildcat boys, as usual, did well in the sprints. School record holder Ian Thompson won the 100-meter dash in a blistering 10.6 seconds and teammate Kaharrie Pureifoy was fourth in 11.38. Thompson later won the 200-meter dash in 22.38 seconds and Pureifoy, a sophomore, was third in 23.17.

Thompson was anchor in the winning 400-meter relay time that included Pureifoy, Austin Graham and Cam Mouketou in 44.07 seconds.

Senior Carson Noyes came up with his best personal performance in the shot put, winning that event with a toss of 50 feet, one inch. He settled for third in the discus.

Also taking thirds in the meet for the Wildcats were Thompson in the long jump, Deven Weaver in the 800-meter run, and the 800-meter relay team with Graham, Aidan Reeder, Cainen Fenn and Terry Sylvester.

Graham, a sophomore, was second in the preliminary round in the 110-meter high hurdles with a sizzling personal best 16.95 reading, but finished eighth in the final round.

For the Wayland girls, freshman Kennedy Jasinski turned in the top individual performance by clearing an even 10 feet in the pole vault. Brenna Hyde was fifth in the long jump, sophomore Ava Makowski was sixth in the open 800 and Hyde was sixth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
