whs-boys-bowlingThe Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team Monday lost its third league dual match encounter of the season, 22-8, to Grand Rapids South Christian.

Coach Sherry Miklusicak said she was somewhat taken aback that her Wildcats were even competing when both schools had been closed for the day because of inclement weather.

“On a day when nearly every school on this side of the state was closed, the roads had cleared up enough to enable us to go bowling at Spectrum Lanes,” she explained.

It was cold outside and the boys were just as cold when they began their Baker matches, mustering only a 127 their first game to South’s 153.

“Six opens (frames) is six too many to win any game,” Miklusicak observed.

Unfortunately, the next Baker was even colder, as Wayland lost 176-124.

“I was getting a little worried that South Christians’ boys were heating up and we were  already down 10-0. Well fortunately our boys heated up a little and avoided a shutout.”

Dylan Smith took his point with a 181 game, Christian Courser took his point with a 159, then Bryan Frank came along firing a fine 209 and took his point as well. Those three individuals carried the team to win the game, 803-789.

“Hey, not bad to hang with a team like South Christian. who puts more revolutions on the ball than the Earth has ever orbited the Sun!”

The Wildcats dropped  the last game 864-763.

“We need to focus on our Baker games,” the coach commented, “as being behind 10-0 is a tough way to start and try to pull out a win.”
