The Wayland boys’ varsity track team scored a resounding 97-39 victory over O-K Gold Conference rival Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills Tuesday, but the girls’ squad was defeated 86-51.

The highlight for the boys was outstanding individual performances.

Ian Thompson captured the 100-meter dash and the long jump. Tim Wierckz took the open 200 in 23 seconds flat, Austin Reeder won the 400 in 53.59 seconds and the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.35 seconds, Travis Koon crossed the line first in the 3200-meter run, and Carson Noyes won both throws, the shot at 44-0 and the discus at 128-06.5.

The Wildcats swept the top three places in the 200, the 400, the pole vault, the long jump, the discus and the 3200. Adam Ordway captured his first first, in the pole vault at 8-0, and freshman Cainon Fenn won the high jump.

Two Wayland relay teams, with Cooper Kotrba, Austin Graham, Aiden Reeder and Ordway in the 800 and Devin Weaver, Casey Jansen, Aiden Reeder and Ordway in 1600.

For the ladies, the 1600-mter relay quartet won with Taylor Wolf, Breanna Hyde, Eliot Antel and Faith Rollandini, Emma Byers took the high jump, Madtison Whitten won the pole vault.

The Lady Wildcats swept the top three places in the high jump and pole vault.

Rollandini turned in some fine performances, but Ottawa Hills’ Alicia Robinson dominated spring and relays. Likewise, Brenna Hyde had to play second fiddle to quality hurdler Makenzee Powell.

The O-K Gold Conference meet awaits the Lady Wildcats later this week. The boys will take a 4-3 league dual meet record into Friday’s competition.
