Wildcat boys tie for 7th, girls 10th in regionals

Glass and CarterThe Wayland boys’ varsity track team finished tied for seventh among 15 teams and the girls’ squad placed 10th at the Division 2 regional meet Friday at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.

The Wildcat guys, who claimed three fourth-place finishes, accumulated 37.16 points, tied with Comstock Park. Grand Rapids Christian won it with 152.66 points and Kenowa Hills was runner-up with 107. Forest Hills Eastern was girls’ regional champ with 146.5 points.

Senior thrower Mccarty Carpenter was fourth in both the shot put and discus. Also copping a fourth was the 3200-meter relay team with Perry Carter, Owen Glass, Caleb Pletcher and Jeremy Pletcher, in 8:44.26.

Senior Owen Glass was fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:06.53, Lee Anderson was fifth in both hurdles events, the 110-meter in 16:38 and the 300 lows in 42.83. Carter was sixth in the pole vault at 11-3.

Jeremy Pletcher was seventh in the 1600 and freshman Seth Sevenski-Popma seventh in the open 400. Sevenski-Popma, Anderson, Glass and Anthony Muscarella hooked up take seventh in the 1600 relay.

The heaviest scoring for the girls came once again from junior hurdler Lauryn Spencer, who was fifth in the 100-meter highs at 17.35 seconds.

Freshman Zoe Antel, Maggie Whitney, Haley Bilger and Mickala Kohtz were sixth in the 3200 relay.
