The Wayland High School boys’ varsity track team came up with a 71-66 O-K Gold Conference dual meet victory Monday, but the girls lost by a similar score, 72-65.
Junior sprint ace Kaharrie Pureifoy again took top honors in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.44 seconds and teammates Terry Sylvester, Cam Mouketou, Warren Smith went 3-4-5. Pureifoy also won the 200 in 23.57 seconds.
Mouketou went 20-3.5 to win the long jump and Pureifoy was third.
Senior distance runner Devin Weaver captured first in the 800-meter run, in 2:03.55. He turned his personal best time in the 1600 in 4:38.57, taking first again.
Sylvester and Austin Graham went 1-2 in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.56 and 18.31 seconds, respectively. Sylvester came back to win the 300-meter hurdles in 43.71.
Sylvester, Graham, Mouketou and Purefoy hooked up to take the 400-meter relay in 45.72 seconds.
Dyland Palett, Travis Koon, James Butler and Weaver combined efforts to win the 3200-meter relay in 8:53.31.
Bronson Huyck turned his personal best performance in the shot put to win that event at 44-10 and Adam Judd was third. Then Huff and Heck went 1-2 in the discus, with the winning throw at 146-6.
Though he didn’t win, freshman Carson Lown cleared a personal best 10-0 in the pole vault to place second.
For the Lady Wildcats, Breanna Hyde had another good day, winning the 100-meter dash in 13.72 second and teammates Faith Rollandini and Emma Thayer made it a sweep. Hyde took the 100-meter hurdles in 17.06 and teammate Emma Byers was runner-up. Byers won the high jump by clearing 4-6.
Hyde crossed the finish line first in the 300-meter hurdles at 51.33 and Rollandidni again took a third. Hyde made it a four-victory day by taking the long jump in 15-8 and Thayer was second.
Taylor Wolf took first in the 200 in 29.31 and Rollandini placed third. Wolf, Emma Thayer, Rollandini and Addyson Moyle hooked up to win the 400 relay in 56.29. Wolf, Elliot Antel, Moyle and Ava Teunissen won the 800 relay in 2:01.3.
Mackenzie Haveman and Karley Davis finished second and third in the shot put. Taylor Hoogewind and Madalynn. Terry went 2-3 in the discus.
Megan Stack took second in the pole vault and French foreign exchange student Jourdan third. Freshman Evie Mathis failed in her one attempt to clear 10-6 because of that nagging and persistent hamstring injury.
