The Wayland boys’ basketball team won its season opener Friday night at Hopkins, 63-51.

The Wildcats trailed their hosts 13-12 and 29-26 after the first two quarters, but took the lead in the third period at 40-38 and then pulled away in the final eight minutes.

Details were not available.

The Vikings will play their second game Tuesday night at Allendale. Wayland also will be on the road next Tuesday, at Grand Rapids West Catholic.
