Wayland senior Dylan Pallett captured fifth place individually in the annual Coach B Thornapple Kellog Invitational Monday, by the Wildcat boys’ team did not field the minimum five runners to record a team score.

The GRTC Peregrines won the meet with 30 points, 10 better than Caledonia.

Pallett completed the five-kilometer race in 17:19.45. Sophomore Mason Fein finished 24th in 18:49.94, junior Ethan Manning was 26th in 18:52.54 and Kyan Lawrence was 106th. That was all.

The Wildcat girls team fielded enough runners to claim a team score. They finished sixth with 170 points in the Thornapple Division of the races.

Freshman Abree VanDenBrink led Wayland with a time of 24:03.39, good for 35th place.

She was followed by freshman Ashlee Larsen in 52nd, junior Megan Stack 60th, sophomore Heli Rhyaenen 72nd and Sarah Osborn 83rd.

The Coach B Invitational honors longtime Middleville Thornapple Kellogg coach Tammy Benjamin, who guided the Trojan girls to three consecutive state championship, in 1999, 200 and 2001.
