Wildcat girls, boys rollers party down for Senior Night

Both the Wayalnd boys’ and girls’ varsity squads placed first at the Lowell Invitational earlier this month.

The Wayland girls’ and boys’ varsity bowling teams partied down for a special Senior Night celebration Wednesday and took down both visiting East Grand Rapids squads.

The matchups were a make-up from an earlier one that was postponed by bad weather.

Senior Co-Captain Marissa Bruinsslot said the action included all seniors and junior varsity members.

“Tonight we had the chance to bowl Bakers and one individual with all the seniors and the second individual featured our jayvees,” she explained.

The girls recorded scores of 159+146=305 in the Baker games.

Scores throughout the mixed lineup included Sydney Urben with another red-hot series of: 225+223=448; Amber Beggs with a 215;  Mackenzie Banas with a: 214;  Marissa Bruinsslot with a 180; Jessica Henderson with a 160;
Kendra Vankoevering with a 132; Makayla Konecny with a 119; Lainey Rollandini with a 93, Metztli Cruz with a 92.

“Tonight was bittersweet, as all the seniors bowled together tonight!” Bruinsslot remarked. “I will always be thankful we have opportunities like this to give everyone a varsity match experience also.”

Boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak said, “The highlight of the game was everyone took both of their individual points.

Baker game one was a close one for the boys with a score of 126-122.

The coach added,”We had some initial jitters from bowlers who don’t see a lot of time in competition as well as a couple of experienced players must have felt the stress on their shoulders. Not to worry — your coach wasn’t!”

Baker game two was 167 -105.

Individual Scores: Jordan Peters 192 – 162; Mike Cole 133 – 137; Hunter Osborn 147 – 156; Bryan Franck 147 – 145; Dillon Smith 198 – 153.

“Dillon was our only junior who bowled, as he needed to get games in since the flu cost him some games a couple of weeks ago,” Miklusicak explained.

The Wildcat boys and girls will face East Grand Rapids again Thursday afternoon at 3:30 at the Clique in Grand Rapids.
