The Wayland WHS basketballjunior varsity girls’ basketball team held off a very competitive Hastings team to score a 47-43 victory and improve its overall season record to 9-3.

The Wildcats were up by just two points with about four seconds left when Taryn Coughlin was fouled. She iced the ballgame by hitting both free throws.
Coach Coralie Miller said, “Sam Niewkoop had some big rebounds at the end to keep Hastings from getting second chances. Sam Shealy’s defense is worth mentioning because she defended their second leading scorer and was able to contain her at the end of the game.”
Coughlin pumped in 16 points and was 6-for-6 from the free throw line. She also gathered seven rebounds.
Sam Shealy had 7 points with 6 rebounds and Niewkoop 7 points with 12 rebounds.
