The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team Saturday was runner-up at the Comstock Park Invitational, but the boys’ squad missed the cut and was sixth out of 10 entries.

The girls’ team qualified third after three games of regular competition and four games of baker.

The Lady Wildcats faced off with Jenison in the semifinal round of match play and came away with a 315 to 284 win to earn the right to meet Grandville in the championship bracket.

The ladies had a tough game one baker and came back in game two to fall 30 pins short 310 to 280. Kadence Bottrall finished second in singles rolling a combined 562 and making another all-tournament team.

“Today was a very up and down day for our girls as they continue to grow as bowlers,” said coach Eric Bottrall. “Confidence and attitude will get better with time as they all get more sound with their physical games. We are young and so talented and haven’t even come close to our potential. I can’t wait to see how far this group will grow over the second half of this season.”

High individual games were by Breanna Hyde 129, Izzy Botwinski 130, Haven Baker 152, Madison Bottrall 153 and Kadence Bottrall 189.

Only the top four teams made the cut into the semifinals and the Wildcat boys missed the cut

“From my estimates, I believe we finished sixth out of 10, as there wasn’t a clear posting of scores,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak.

The event consisted of three games, followed by four baker games.

Kyle VanEss rolled games of 169, 154 and 212

Jayse Henkel had a 147.

Stephen Harnish rolled a 140, 190, and 164.

Dominik Baker had a 145 and 186.

Aydin Tolliver rolled a 142 and 115

Chandler Caruso rolled 152, 164, and 137.

Baker games were 156, 175, 164 and 125.

“We didn’t bowl our best, but we have bowled a lot in the last seven days,” Miklusicak said. “Two tournaments and three matches may have taken their toll. We had 20 single pin spare misses and missed the headpin 55 times.
