Wildcat girls runners-up in Cedar Springs C-C Invitational

 

Freshman Amy Oosterhouse finished 10th in the Cedar Springs race.

The Wayland High School girls’ cross-country team was runner-up behind perennial O-K Silver Conference power Calvin Christian Saturday morning at the Cedar Springs Invitational.

The Wildcat boys’ squad, meanwhile, was eighth among 11 teams in its race.

Calvin Christian scored 32 team points to Wayland’s 59 among the nine teams entered in the girls’ competition.

The Lady Wildcats captured three of the top 10 positions. Senior Maggie Whitney led the way in fourth place at 19:58.08, sophomore Rylee Cronkright was sixth in 20:13.01 and sophomore foreign exchange student Mie Tornbjerg checked in 10th in 20:59.03. Freshman Naomi Oosterhouse came in 16th in 21:35.56 and junior Zoe Antel rounded out the scoring in 23rd at 22:03.49.

Host Cedar Springs won the boys’ race with 45 points, Grant had 61 and Comstock Park 87. Wayland had 212, ahead of Wyoming Lee, Kelloggsville and Liberas Christian.

Freshman Elijah Gamelin had his best race of the season by taking 31st in 19:25.56. Senior Ethan Killips was 42nd in 19:53.25, and junior Jarod Geerlings, senior Gabe Attruia and sophomore Ian Russell bunched up nicely by coming in 47th, 48th and 49th with times of 20:00.67, 20:03.14 and 20:04.71, respectively.
