Wildcat golfers capture 1st place in TK Invitational

The Wayland boys’ varsity golf team took first place in the Middleville Thornapple Kellogg Invitational tournament Friday at the Yankee Springs Golf Course.

Wayland carded a team score of 321 for 18 holes of play, edging runner-up NorthPointe Christian by a stroke. Nine teams competed.

The Wildcats had two golfers, junior Rory Myers and freshman Tyler Omness, in the top 10, both shooting 78. Rory Bessinger fired an 82 and Mitch Salisbury carded a 83 to round out the scoring.

The Wildcats finished second in the first O-K Gold Conference jamboree of the season at the Quail Ridge Golf Course Monday, putting together a nine-hole score of 162, just two strokes away from Forest Hills Eastern.

Wayland was led by jamboree medalist Rory Myers who carded a even par 36. The Wildcats got a 39 from Carson Sevigny, 41 from freshmen Tyler Omness, and a 46 from Mitch Salisbury.

Wayland was sixth in a field of 23 schools at Cedar Chase for the Rockford Invite Saturday. Wayland shot a 324. The Wildcats were lead by Myers with a 79 followed by 81s from Omness and Sevigny and an 83 from Bessinger .

This was the best team score for the Wildcats since they started playing in this tournament 10 years ago.
