Wildcat golfers shoot best round of year at Cedar Chase

The Wayland varsity boys’ golf team Saturday had its best round of the year in a 20-team tournament Saturday at Cedar Chase.

The Wildcats fired a team score of 336 and finished fourth. Rockford won in with a 320 and St. Johns was runner-up.

“It is a very hard course to play and it was set up very long,” said coach Chris Drew. “We played our best golf of the year. We are learning how to score well and that is the difference.”

Wayland was led by Carson Sevigny with an 82, followed by Jake Omness with an 83, Rory Myers 85, and Robert Mucci with an 86.

“We beat some really good teams today and the team should be very proud. I hope this gives us some confidence as we head into the rest of the season,” said Drew.

The results weren’t quite as good Friday at the second O-K Gold Conference jamboree at Yankee Springs Golf Course. Wayland shot a 333 and finished fifth among the seven teams.

“It was a cold day at Yankee Springs golf course and that made conditions a little harder. Yankee is a place very familiar to most of the team, but we had a few bad holes that hurt our score. I don’t think this was our best score we can shoot here,” said Drew “We have the ability to drop 10 to 15 strokes on this course, and we will need to do just that when we play here for the regional on June 1.”

The Wildcats were led by Rory Myers with a 79, followed by Robert Mucci and Carson Sevigny with 84, and Jacob Omness with an 86.
