Wayland’s surging boys’ golf team Wednesday finished second for the second straight time this week in an O-K Gold Conference jamboree.

The Wildcats carded a team score of 164, only two strokes off the pace set by Forest Hills Eastern. The competition was held at Wayland’s home course, Orchard Hills in Shelbyville.

Wayland actually tied East Grand Rapids for the runner-up slot, but the tie-breaker was won by Wildcat Mitch Salisbury, who turned in a 44, besting the Pioneers’ fifth golfer.

Wayland was led by Carson Sevigny with a 39. The scoring was rounded out with a 40 from Jake Omness, 42 from Rory Myers, and a 43 from Robert Mucci.

Wayland will have another busy weekend, playing Friday at the Lynx in the M-89 tournament and then the ‘Cats go to Bedford Valley in Battle Creek Saturday to play some of the best teams in the state.
