Not only does the Wayland High School boys’ varsity basketball team face a major test at 6 p.m. Friday at South Christian, it also will make a long trip Saturday to take on one of the most storied athletic programs in Michigan.
Coach Mike Hudson and his Wildcat guys are keenly aware that if you want to win the league title, you have to beat the ever-dangerous Sailors, who are always in the thick of the battle for the O-K Gold crown. They are even more difficult to handle in their lair in Cutlerville.
The girls’ team also will get a stern test later that evening in their quest to capture their 13th straight victory this season.
The Wildcat boys will make the long trip Saturday to Detroit Country Day High School in Beverly Hills. The host Yellowjackets have been famous over the past several decades for copping state championships. However, thus far this season, they’ve struggled with a 2-4 overall record. One of their losses was 53-52 to Holland Christian.
Game time in Beverly Hills will be at 6 p.m.
