The Wayland girls‘ junior varsity basketball team pulled out a 42-40 thriller over Hastings Friday night in its season opener.

The Lady Wildcats were down 40-35 with about two minutes left before freshman Evangelina Helderop dropped in four straight free throws, Grace Dollarhide scored on a driving layup and added a free throw and Breyala Pou came up with a clutch rebound of an errant shot that would tied the game.
