The Wayland boys’ varsity soccer team absorbed its second loss in as many tries this season Tuesday evening with a 2-1 loss to visiting Byron Center.
The Bulldogs were able to celebrate as they cleared the ball out of their box with seconds left to go in the match. The Wildcats turned up the intensity and pressure late in the game and were threatening to score up until that final chance.
Tristen Ortiz netted his first goal of the season on an assist from David Ruszkowski and Jake Larsen made 14 saves, putting together another quality effort between the pipes.
The boys are back in action Thursday evening when they travel to Zeeland West.
