The Wayland varsity softball team Tuesday hiked its O-K Gold Conference record to 6-0 and captured its ninth consecutive victory with a shutout doubleheader triumph at Forest Hills Eastern.
Hurlers Madi Ludema and Harmony Laker overpowered the Hawks in identical scores of 14-0. Ludema yielded just three hits, walked none and struck out nine in the opener.
Laker allowed only two hits and fanned 10 in game two.
Ludema had the booming bat in the nightcap, unloading a home run among her two hits. Laker and Loren Wright both came up with a couple of hits as well and Hannah Rairigh had three hits in her leadoff position.
Rairigh drove in three runs with a couple of doubles and Shelby VanHouten drilled a two-bagger and two singles.
Wayland now is 13-4 overall.
