The Wayland girls’ and boys’ varsity track teams opened their seasons Tuesday afternoon by splitting a double dual meet at Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

The Lady Wildcats defeated the host team 91-48, but lost to perennial powerhouse South Chrtistian, 88.5 to 57.5. The Wildcat boys also bested Catholic Central, 83-63, but fell 82 to 67 to South Christian.

The girls swept the 100-meter dash with sophomore Faith Rollandini. Audrey Lepper and freshman Taylor Wolf and went 2-3-4 in the 200. Madtison Whitten, Elliot Antel, Taylor Wolf and Rollandini hooked up to win the 800-meter relay.

Brianna Hyde won the long jump and was second in the 100-meter high hurdles and 300-meter lows.

Samantha Wilson took the pole vault.

For the guys, winners included Ian Thompson in the 100, Tim Wierckz in the 200, Devin Weaver in the 800, Austin Reeder in the 110-meter high and 300-meter low hurdles, The 400-meter quartet of Thompson, Reeder, Austin Graham and Wierckz, Bronson Huyk in the shot put, along with a second in the discus.

So both the boys’ and girls’ Wildcat teams own a 1-1 dual meet record in O-K Gold Conference action.
