
It was yet another big day Monday for the Wayland boys’ track team, which crushed O-K Gold Conference opponents West Catholic 116-21 and Grand Rapids Union 110-19.
The host Wildcats have not lost a dual meet all springs and it has come in first in all invitational tournaments.
The Wayland girls also had a pretty good day, claiming dual victories over Union 94-36 and West Catholic 82-54.
Registering first-place finishes were:
• Henry Maass, 11.2 in the 100-meter dash, two-tenths of a second faster than teammate Jake Reeder, who came back to win the 200 in 22.62 while Brock Wheeler was second and Maass third.
- Wheeler won the open 400 with a time of 52.22.
- Xander Stepek captured first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.77.
- Ethan Manning and Alberto Madujando went 1-2 in the 3200, with the winning time o 10:58.09.
- Alex Hubbard won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.45 seconds. He and Aiden Natividad went 1-2 in the 300 hurdles, with the winning tomato 42.04.
- As usual, the relay squads performed well — Drew Hudson, Jake Reeder, Chance Lenhart and Maass in the 400 at 45:06; Maass, Wheeler, Hudson and Reeder in the 800 at 1:33.41; Stepek, Hubbard, Chance Lenhart and Wheeler in the 1600 at 3:49.69, and the 3200 quartet of Stepek, Mandujando, Manning and Reese Senneker in 9:10.89.
- Ashton Kuhlman threw the shot at 46-0 to win that event and he won the discus with a Toss of 132-3.
- Justin Springs and Jacob Crater went 1-2 in the long jump with Springs checking in at 20-1.5.
Lady Wildcats also have a merry romp
- Laney wolf won the 100-meter dash with a time of13.17 seconds.
- Megan Brogger and Ryleigh Haveman went 1-2 in the 400 with the winning time of 1:04.41
- Distance ace Abree VanDenBrink won the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:54.51.
- Lillian Lakatos finished second in both hurdles races.
- The 800-meter relay race was won by the foursome of Brogger, Evie Mathis, Quin Reeder and Wolf in 1:51.25.
- Ayva Mulder,, Megan Stack, Havem an and Tessa Miller won the 1600 relay in 4:52.72.
- Gwen Howard finished first in the high jump by clearing an even 5-0.
- Evie Mathis cleared 12-0, tying her season best ion the pole-vault, but six inches below her personal best.
