The Wayland High School varsity boys’ and girls’ track teams both finished third Saturday at the Comstock Park Invitational and fourth Friday at the Wayland Invitational.

It was a grueling 24 hours for both squads. The boys accumulated 759 points and the girls 599, as the scoring was done according to the MITCA meet system.

The Wildcat boys’ biggest strength was in sprints. Ju8nior Ian Thompson took first in the 100-meter dash in 11.49 seconds and teammate Tim Wierckz was second. The two flipped in the 200, with Wierckz winning it in 23.28 and Thompson a little more than a second slower.

Thompson, Austin Graham, Austin Reeder and Wierckz hooked up to win the 400-meter relay in 46.52 seconds.

Devin Weaver, Jared Jandernoa, Casey Jansen and Isaac Dyer were less than two seconds away from winning the 3200 relay.

Reeder was runner-up in the high jump at 5-4.

Sophomore Faith Rollandini took second in the 100. Breanna Hyde and Emma Byers went 1-2 in the 100-meter high hurdles and Hyde added a second in the 300-meter hurdles. Hyde and Audrey Lepper went 2-3 in the long jump.

Kenowa Hills, an O-K Gold Conference rival, won both the boys’ and girls’ meet at Comstock Park.

Thompson and Wierckz captured the first two places in the 100 at Wayland Friday. Wierckz came back to win the 200.

Freshman Cainon Fenn earned a first in the open 400 with a time of 54.79 seconds. Austin Reeder won the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.06 seconds. Thompson, Graham, Reeder and Wierckz took the 400-meter relay in 45.84 seconds.

Reeder was runner-up in the high jump at 5-10./

Rollandini came up with a second in the 200, Hyde was second in the 100-meter highs, Lepper, Elliot Antel, Taylor Wolf and Rollandini were second in the 800-meter relay, and Byers won the high jump at 4-6.

Jenison won the competition among seven boys’ teams and Middleville Thornapple Kellogg was tops in the girls’ meet.
