The Wayland varsity volleyball team split two matches in a double dual Tuesday at Middleville Thornapple Kellogg High School.
The Lady Wildcats beat Ottawa Hills and lost to South Christian,” bring their O-K Gold Conference record this season to 4-3.
The Wildcats took care of business against Ottawa Hills beating the Bengals 25-5 and 25-12.
“Everyone played well, and contributed to the W,” said coach Nicki Cardosa.
The Wildcats continued good play into the match against South, the league’s top team in the standings. They beat the Sailors in the first game 25-18, lost the second match, “as the South Christian hitters got red hot,” Cardosa said.
The third game was a back and forth struggle until Wayland went ahead 13 to 7 (playing to 15). Unfortunately, South Christian regrouped and scored the next eight points to avoid the upset bid, 15 to 13.
