The Wayland varsity volleyball team took third place Wednesday at the Otsego Invitational, just 24 hours after the ‘Cats won the Comstock Park Invitational.
The Wildcats Wednesday split with Otsego and Schoolcraft and beat Hamilton before losing to 25-19 and 26-24 to Battle Creek Harper Creek in the semi-finals. Harper Creek is ranked No. 9 in the state Class B poll.
Leading the Wildcats were Taryn Coughlin with 21 kills, 5 blocks, and 7 aces; Sydney Ritz with 20 kills and 16 digs; Leigha Morse with 48 assists, 12 digs, and 11 kills, Chloe Coughlin with 11 kills and 5 aces; Lyndie VanMalsen with 12 digs, and Kamie Swan with 16 kills and 6 aces.
The Lady Wildcats Tuesday won the Comstock Park Invitational, going 5-0 on the day. They beat Cedar Springs and Sparta in pool play and then beat Allendale and Fremont before taking out Kent City 25-22, 20-25 and 15-8 in an exciting finals match.
