The Wayland varsity volleyball team had its league dual match record this season evened at 1-1 Thursday with a tough loss in five sets at Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
The Lady Wildcats lost the first two sets 25-23 and 25-16, but then rallied to win the next two 25-15 and 25-23 to force the decisive fifth set. The Cougars prevailed 15-12 in that last encounter, however.
Leading the Wildcats were Sydney Ritz with 15 kills and 3 aces, Leigha Morse with 28 assists, 3 aces, and 21 digs, and Lyndie VanMalsen with 25 digs.
Coach Nicki Cardosa commented that freshmen Cassidy VanMalsen and Emily Johnson also played well.
