Wildcats 2nd in both races at Wayland Invitational

The Grand Rapids Track Club Peregrines won both the boys’ and girls’ divisions of the season-opening Wayland Invitational cross-country meet Monday.

GRTC had just 24 team points in the boys’ race and 37 in the girls’ competition. Wayland was second in both races with 34 and 54 points, respectively, Hopkins third and Wyoming Lee fourth.

There were pleasant surprises.

Perhaps the biggest was a sub-20 minute five-kilometer performance by Wildcat Dylan Pallett, who checked in at 19:34.98, good for fourth place. Junior Devin Weaver was third at 19:27.63, sophomore Isaac Dyer sixth at 20:10.25, sophomore Henry Oudbier 10th and junior Travis Koon 15th.

Senior Adam Ball was Hopkins’ top runner, taking 14th in 21:01.98. Freshman Kenyon Katje was 24th, Caleb Beilby 26th, Ryan Williams 27th and Nathan Onderlinde 29th.

Junior Olivia Barabas was runner-up in the girls’ race for the Wildcats, with a time of 22:02.33 over a difficult course and oppressive heat. Senior Hannah Smith was fifth, sophomore Elliot Antel ninth, Mackenzie VanderWeide 19th and Sara Wolowicz 23rd.

Sophomore Helena Kerber paced the Lady Vikings at 23:01.34, good for fourth, frehman Kambria Moored was sixth, sophomore Jaeden Harshberger 13th, freshman Navaya Ingle 20th and junior Neveah Helderop 21st/

The Lady Vikings were only six points away from taking second place.
